The British Council in partnership with the Ministry of higher and secondary specialised education, the Centre for youth Initiatives of Fund Forum, Uzbekistan teachers’ of English association are organising English Week in Uzbekistan.

Objectives of the Week:

  • To respond to the almost unlimited demand for English coming from all sectors of economy
  • To engage and strengthen partnerships for a much greater impact
  • To facilitate a dialogue in the area of education reform including in English teaching and learning 
  • To disseminate achievements of partnership projects in area of education and English
  • To promote new generation of English learning and teaching materials
  • To mark Charles Dickens’s 200th anniversary
  • To promote London 2012 Olympics

The Week will bring together more than 350 teachers and 150 students of English, 50 heads of English and in-service teacher training departments and 50 education managers, rectors and prorectors from all over Uzbekistan. 4 leading experts in the area of English from the UK will take part in the event.

Uzbek-British cooperation in the field of higher education counts its successful history for the last 15 years, since the Memorandum on Cooperation was signed between two governments and the office of British Council was opened in Tashkent in 1996.

The British Council projects in Uzbekistan aim to support national reforms in the field of education and to create opportunities for professional development and improving English language skills for students, teachers, employers and entrepreneurs.
